Può essere il non essere? La risposta, per Platone, si basa sulla Dialettica. E in particolare sulla Dialettica intesa come relazionalità unitaria delle idee, come ordine delle idee, trama e ordito razionali del mondo delle idee.
L’ORDINE OGGETTIVO DELLE IDEE
La Dialettica non è solo il metodo per raggiungere la scienza, e cioè la conoscenza certa. Ma è anche l’ordine oggettivo delle idee. La Dialettica come metodo svela l’organizzazione del mondo delle idee come realtà.
L’UNO, LA DIADE E I NUMERI REALI
L’ordine delle idee è un ordine gerarchico con al vertice l’uno bello, vero e buono. E questo dice che il principio fondamentale del mondo delle idee è l’unità. Appena sotto l'Uno c’è la Diade, che è molteplicità. Il mondo delle idee è quindi unitario e molteplice. E’ unità degli opposti. Una opposizione inclusiva, che comprende sia l’uno sia l’altro. Uno e diade generano i numeri ideali. Che sono sintesi di unità e molteplicità.
L’ESSERE E I 5 GENERI SOMMI
Poi comincia l’Essere che implica Identità, Diversità, Quiete e Movimento: i 5 generi sommi. Sono le idee più generali, quelle che fondano tutte le altre. Quiete e Movimento non vanno intesi in senso spaziotemporale. Quiete è la stabilità di ogni idea, in quanto identica a se stessa. Movimento è la relazionalità di ogni idea in quanto diversa dalle altre.
LE IDEE DELLE COSE FISICHE E I PRINCIPI LOGICO-MATEMATICI
Poi ci sono le idee delle cose fisiche. E poi ancora i principi logico/matematici, come ad esempio uguaglianza, proporzione, simmetria.
I VALORI ETICO-POLITICI
Sotto i principi logico/matematici ci sono le idee dei valori etico/politici, come giustizia, coraggio e lealtà. Poi abbiamo gli enti matematici, quelli che costituiscono l’oggetto della geometria e dell’aritmetica. Che non sono propriamente idee, ma una realtà intermedia tra le idee e le cose fisiche.
IL MONDO DELLE IDEE E’ UNICO E MOLTEPLICE
Le idee sono molte. Sono tutte Essere, sono tutte unitariamente ordinate e organizzate perché appartengono tutte a un’unica idea che è quella dell’Essere. Quindi il mondo delle idee è uno e molteplice.
L’Essere è un piccolo uno, e ogni idea è un piccolo uno. Ma l’Uno come tale è superiore e oltre l’Essere. L’Uno è al di là delle idee per dignità e potenza. In quanto principio, è trascendente rispetto anche all’essere e al mondo delle idee.
La Dialettica è la relazione che lega tra loro tutte le idee in base a rapporti di inclusione o di esclusione. Ogni idea è figlia di un’idea, ma non di un’altra, ed è madre di alcune idee, ma non di altre. In base a una struttura ad albero genealogico, tutte le idee sono “imparentate”, direttamente o indirettamente, con tutte le altre. Le idee non potrebbero essere tali se non avessero questa organizzazione dialettica. Per questo sono ordine e non caos.
PLATONE CONTRO PARMENIDE
Platone condivide il principio fondamentale della filosofia di Parmenide. E cioè che solo l’essere è, e che il non essere non può essere.
Ma assolutizzando questa tesi, come aveva fatto Parmenide, l’essere risulta unico e indifferenziato, mentre il mondo delle idee per Platone è anche molteplice.
Com’è possibile conciliare l’essere con la molteplicità?
PARMENIDE E LA FALLACIA DI OMONIMIA
Platone contesta a Parmenide una fallacia di omonimia. Il termine Essere può essere utilizzato come predicato verbale, dicendo io sono nel senso di esisto. Ma si può usare anche come predicato nominale affermando ad esempio che “il gesso è bianco”, per indicare che qualche cosa ha una certa proprietà; oppure che “il gatto è un felino” per indicare l’appartenenza di qualche cosa a qualcos’altro. In questo casi il verbo essere ha un significato diverso da esistere.
Nel predicato verbale essere significa esistere. Nel predicato nominale significa che ha la proprietà di, oppure appartiene a. Quando usiamo essere come predicato verbale, e quindi diciamo “il cavallo esiste”, il suo contraddittorio afferma il non essere assoluto, il nulla. In questo caso violiamo il principio di Parmenide. Ma quando invece diciamo “il cavallo non è una pecora”, oppure “il cavallo non è un rettile”, noi non stiamo utilizzando il verbo essere nel suo significato di esistere, lo stiamo usando nel significato di “è diverso da”.
È un non essere relativo e non un non essere assoluto (=nulla). Se dico che il cavallo non è una pecora, non nego l’esistenza della pecora o l’esistenza del cavallo. Nego semplicemente la loro identità. Nego la relazione di identità a favore di un’altra relazione.
IL NON ESSERE RELATIVO E L'ESSERE MOLTEPLICE
Quindi usare il non essere relativo, cioè ammettere la molteplicità differenziata dell’essere, non nega l’essere. E se l’essere non fosse molteplice non servirebbe a nulla perché non riuscirebbe a dare ragione della realtà fisica. E una filosofia che non dà ragione di qualcosa non è una filosofia. Per spiegare la realtà, la filosofia deve piegarsi al non essere relativo.
