Per Platone le idee sono il fondamento ontologico del cosmo naturale. Quella di gatto, ad esempio, lo è di tutti i gatti, che sono copie parziali e imperfette del loro modello perfetto. E questo vale per qualsiasi cosa.
UNA SPIEGAZIONE SOLO VEROSIMILE
Nel dialogo "Timeo" Platone sostiene che la spiegazione della derivazione del mondo fisico da quello delle idee non può essere vera, ma solo verosimile. E quindi non può avere la forma di un discorso scientifico, ma solo quella di un racconto, di un Mito. Di una narrazione vicina al vero ma non completamente vera.
Perché il principio del mondo fisico non è costituito solo dalle idee ma anche da un altro principio, autonomo da quello delle idee. Un principio irregolare e irrazionale, che Platone chiama Chora, che si può tradurre come spazialità. E’ un principio privo di ordine e come tale non è, cioè non esiste in senso pieno. L’identità di questo principio consiste proprio nel non essere che è, cioè in qualcosa che non esiste davvero, in quanto è disordine, ma che tuttavia esiste come tale. Lo stesso Platone dice che possiamo pensarlo solo con un ragionamento “bastardo”, e cioè spurio e contraddittorio. Ecco perché la spiegazione dell’origine del cosmo fisico non può essere vera ma solo verosimile.
Il terzo principio, che correla le idee e la Chòra, è il Demiurgo. E’ il dio superiore e appartiene al mondo delle idee. E’ un essere ideale ma dotato di personalità e di un’autocoscienza individuale. Il Demiurgo ha generato con la sua azione intenzionale il mondo fisico come copia imperfetta del mondo delle idee. Plasmandola il più similmente possibile alle idee, ha elevato la Chora dal non essere all’essere, cioè da una condizione di esistenza virtuale a una condizione di esistenza semireale. Semireale perché il mondo fisico, in quanto unione tra idee e Chora, è un misto di essere e di non essere, di ordine e disordine, di razionalità e irrazionalità.
PERCHE’ IL DEMIURGO HA UNITO IDEE E CHORA
Ma perché il demiurgo ha fatto tutto questo? E perché non ha realizzato una copia perfetta?
Perché il Demiurgo vuole il bene, e quindi anche il bene della Chora. E considerando il disordine in cui versa, vuole ordinarla. Il bene infatti coincide con l’essere, cioè con l’esistere pienamente. Ma a sua volta l’essere coincide con l’ordine, con la razionalità.
Quindi, per fare il bene della Chora il Demiurgo vuole portarla all’essere e dunque vuole ordinarla. Ma la Chora non è ordinabile in modo completo perché è in sé stessa disordine. Per questo il mondo fisico non può raggiungere la perfezione del mondo delle idee, ovvero non è essere ma semiessere.
